Alice (Shurtleff) Grider

Alice Grider, 94, of Hamburg, formerly of Crossett, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016, at the Cornerstone Hospital of West Monroe.  She was born on June 5, 1922, in Line, Arkansas to her parents, Walter and Maggie Shurtleff.  She was an elementary school teacher who taught most of her career in the Crossett School District at Calhoun Elementary.  After 40 years as an educator, she retired in 1984.  She was a Baptist and enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Ervin Shurtleff and Maggie Ardell Young Shurtleff; husband, Orrell Grider; three sisters, Ozell Poole, Mildred Johnson, and Grace Stone; two brothers, Walter Jr. and Norman Shurtleff; one daughter-in-law, Sabrina Grider; and one great-grandchild, Jett Moffatt.

She is survived by her son, David Grider of Hamburg; three granddaughters, Laura Griever and husband Case, and Randi Moffatt and husband Josh both of Crossett, and Haley Grider of Hamburg; one great-granddaughter, Reese Moffatt of Crossett; two sisters, Bobby Roberts of North Little Rock and Billy Shepard and husband Charles of Bryant; and a friend and caregiver, Lavina Spruell of Hamburg.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 28th, at Medders Funeral Home Chapel, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in North Crossett, with Bro. Keith Boseman officiating, followed by an interment at Pinewood Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert Stone, Mike Grider, Jay Grider, Jamie Garison, Josh Moffatt, and Case Griever.

A Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 27th at Medders Funeral Home.
