Mr. Allen "Rabbit" Martin, age 90, of Crossett, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. He was born on May 13, 1924 in Lacey, Arkansas to his parents, Gill Martin and Estelle McClain Martin. Allen fought in World War II with the Army in the Rough and Ready 276th Engineer Combat Battalion. He retired after 43 years as a Boiler Operator for Georgia Pacific. He was also a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Crossett and loved to hunt and fish.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 54 years, Varniece Temple Martin; one son, Bill "Row" Martin; five brothers, Quinton, Bill, Luther, Vance and LaDon Martin; one sister, Gerildean Martin Long; and a very special lady friend, Irene Sivils.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Riles and husband Rick of Crossett; two grandsons, DeWayne Carter and Neil Riles and wife Jennifer of Mansfield, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Aaron Carter of Crossett, Kaitlyn Carter of Charleston, Arkansas, Brady Riles and Sheridan Riles of Mansfield, Texas, Theo Smith of Calion and Crockett Smith of Strong; and one great great grandson, Jesse Smith of Strong. Also special chosen granchildren Angel Garner and husband Scott of Savannah, TN, Jeremy Church of Crossett, and Jennifer Myers of Hamburg. Chosen great-grandchildren include Seth and Sidney Garner of Savannah, TN, Skyler Church of Crossett, Dylan and Trevor Locke of Rogers, AR. He is also survived by three sisters, Ella Ouita Spears and husband Bill of Camden; Ruth Potts and husband Bill of Texas, and Shirley Robinson also of Texas; and two brothers, Travis and LaVert Martin of Texas and a host of family and friends who loved him very much.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14th at Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Crossett with Bro. Eric Hodge and Bro. Travis Roberts officiating, followed by an interment at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett. Pallbearers will be Theo Smith, Glenn Robinson, Richard Edwards, John Hall, Johnny Craig, and Jim Dixon. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Land, Carl Sammons, John Pennington, Rickey White, Johnny Sammons, Sonny Lowry and Billy Bell.
Visitation will be Friday, March 13th from 7-9:00 p.m. at Medders Funeral Home.
