Betty Murphy Obituary

Betty Sue Dubose Murphy, 91, of Crossett passed away, September 1, 2016, at Stonegate Villa Health and Rehabilitation Center in Crossett.  She was born in Hermitage AR, July 4th, 1925, to her parents, James and Carrie Powell Dubose. Betty retired in 1987 from Georgia Pacific after working 25 years as a Key Punch Operator while raising two children on her own. Not only did she take her children to church, but she taught them, by example, the importance of walking with God.  Her faith always unwavering even in the midst of adversities.

She also worked in the nursery at First Baptist Church, Temple Baptist Church and was a cook for the Angels About Tea Room.  She enjoyed cooking, writing poetry, singing, reading her bible and spending time with her sisters and friends. Babysitting was her all time passion along with spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a true Christian Matriarch who made a lasting imprint on the lives of all who knew her.

 She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Richard Boyd Murphy; five sisters, Oma Smith, Ollie Barnett, Leta Kelley, Elise Courson and Rena Tucker; and two brothers Bobby and James Dubose.

Survivors include her son, Richard Boyd Murphy, Jr. of Crossett; one daughter, Shelia Murphy Farmer and husband Gary of Union KY; two granddaughters, Jill Marie Campbell and husband Matthew of LaGrange KY and Jennifer Michelle Moore of Monroe LA; three grandsons, Matthew Farmer and wife Brittney of Crossett, Barry Farmer and wife Cathy of Hot Springs and Chris Farmer and wife Candace of Raleigh NC; along with seven great-grandchildren, Beckett Farmer, Murphy Farmer, Kelsey Moore, Hannah Moore, Rogan Farmer, and Carson and Cooper Campbell.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3rd at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W. in North Crossett.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 4th at Medders Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Buddy Kinney officiating, followed by an interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett. Pallbearers are Danny Courson, Steve Courson, Dan Courson, Mike Jones, Bob Vickers and Buddy Dean.  Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Carter Cox Jr., Billy Bays, and John Miles.
