Charles Fred “Buck” Thompson, 86, of Crossett, died on Monday, July 10, 2017, surrounded by his family, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born on January 7, 1931, in Jonesboro, LA to his parents, Solomon, and Senrita Spurlock Thompson. At age 5, his family moved to Crossett where he was raised and on September 13, 1958, he married his sweetheart, Betty Morine Martin. For thirty-five years, Buck worked at Jr. Meeks Chevrolet as an auto mechanic until he eventually retired in 1988. He was a member of North Crossett First Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and visiting with others, including his Andy’s coffee group, but especially loved spending time with his granddaughter, Whitney Lynn.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sol, and Rita Thompson; one brother, Harold Bernard Thompson; and two sisters, Annie Lucille Lum; and infant sister, Martha Jane Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Morine Thompson; one daughter, Martha Jane Murphy and husband Pete; one granddaughter, Whitney Lynn Murphy; and one brother, Bobby L. Thompson and wife Minnie all of Crossett; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 12th at Medders Funeral Home Chapel, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett, with Johnnie Bolin and Bro. Jerry Martin officiating, followed by an interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Donnie Martin, Ben Martin, Darrell Wise, J.W. Martin, Charles Martin, and Bill Lum. Honorary pallbearers are his Andy’s coffee group.
Visitation will be 9:30-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service.
