Dennis Meeks Obituary

Mr. Dennis C. Meeks, 68, of Crossett, passed away Friday, July 17, 2015 at Life Touch Hospice in El Dorado, Arkansas.  He was born on August 6, 1946 in Crossett to Wesley and Pauline Deal Meeks.  He enjoyed many outdoor activities including playing golf and tennis, fishing, hunting, cutting horses and also drag racing which he enjoyed with his wife, Rheeta, on their first date.  He also possessed a talent for playing snooker.  Dennis began his professional career at an early age in 1962 when he began working for his dad at Meeks Motor Co. in Crossett.  He continued to work with his father, “Jr.” at Meeks Chrysler Plymouth Dodge, then acquired Jr. Meeks Chevrolet where he worked until the business was sold to the Holt Auto Group in 2009.   Dennis loved his hometown of Crossett but more than anything, he loved his family.  They best describe him as “the care-giver” who would often take breakfast to his kids and grandkids and cared for his dad after he became ill.  He had many close friends from the coffee shop to the golf course, but he was adored by his entire community.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley “Jr.” and Pauline Meeks.  He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rheeta Meeks; two sons, Lane Meeks and wife Tressa, and Russ Meeks and wife Stacey; three grandsons, Travis Meeks and wife Lindsey, Ty Meeks, and Clay Meeks; and one great granddaughter, Teegan Meeks, all of Crossett.  He also had two sisters, Theresa Sanderlin and husband Jimmy of Monroe, LA, and Aundie Rodgers and husband Jimmie of Crossett along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 20, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1533 Hwy 52 W, in North Crossett with Bro. Robin Allen officiating, followed by an interment at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers are Lane Meeks, Russ Meeks, Travis Meeks, Ty Meeks, Tab Sanderlin, Michael Young, Jason Rainey, George Autenreath and Tony Juarez.  Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy Sanderlin, Jimmie Rodgers, John Pennington, Phil Clark, Walter White, Don Reed, Bill Ferguson, Gerry Rodgers, Tommy Rickman, Rick Clayton, Jim Pettit, Francisco Juarez, James Carter, Richard Edwards, Gordon Toney, Wayne Donaldson and Jeff Kelley.
