Donald Greene Obituary

Donald R. Greene, 77, of Crossett, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock.  He was born in Kerz, KY on November 27, 1939, to his parents, Oma and Olga Justice Greene.  At age 18, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and during his military career was stationed at Edwards, AFB in Mohave, CA, Japan, and Little Rock AFB where he met and married his beloved wife, Lucille Davis on April 25, 1958.  After his service, he worked several jobs, including being a line worker for Capital Manufacturing in Ohio, a truck driver for PE Barnes Trucking in Hamburg, and eventually worked at Georgia Pacific Paper Mill as machine room utility where he retired after 28 years.  Other than time spent making a living for his family, Don was always volunteering his time for his community, he was the overseer for the Crossett Ball Parks, assisted with bringing the Bluegrass Association to Crossett, was a member of the Crossett Police Auxiliary, the American Legion Post 111, and the Frost Prairie Fire Department.  However, the time he treasured most was the time he spent with his kids and grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Sandra Lynn Pippen; one grandson, Michael Joseph Pippen; four brothers, Jr., Calvin, Ford, and Kenneth Greene; two sisters, Jewel Lester and Gladys Haney; and a son-in-law, Kevin Curran.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lucille Davis Greene of Crossett; one son, Mike Greene and wife Pattie of Junction City; three daughters, LaDonna Ann Willis and husband Mike, Lora Newhouser and husband Richard, and Belinda Curran all of Crossett; two adopted children, Loretta Duncan and husband Emory and Bryan Pippen also of Crossett; one brother, Delmer Greene of Paintsville, KY; one sister, Bea Green and husband Wayne of Columbus, OH; nine grandchildren, Paul, Angella, Kristie, Jessica, Kasey, Trent, Dustin, Slade and one step-grandson, Josh; along with 13 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18th at the Church of the Redeemer, 2220 Highway 425 S in Hamburg, with Pastor Bob Whiteley officiating, followed by an interment at Carlock Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett.  Pallbearers will be Paul Greene, Kasey Newhouser, Trent Newhouser, Dustin Curran, Bryan Pippen, and Ty Duncan.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the Frost Prairie Fire Department, the Crossett Police Department, and the American Legion Post 111.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 17th at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett.
