Fred Hipp, Sr., 79, of Crossett, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at his home. He was born in West Point, AR on September 24, 1938, to his parents, Benjamin, “Bud”, and Maggie Mae Swain Hipp. He was a Baptist and one of eleven children. He graduated from Fountain Hill High School in 1956, served four years in the United States Air Force, and worked for Georgia Pacific until he retired after 36 years employment. He held the position as the Chief Shop Steward of Local 369, coached soccer, baseball, and softball for many years and was an avid Democrat who loved to discuss politics.
He enjoyed collecting tools, reading, studying about geography, traveling, and fishing. He was a family man who built a bunkhouse specifically for “friends and family gatherings” and who spoke often to his children about the importance of learning a trade and the value of a good education.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Herbie Hipp; two brothers, J.W. Hipp and Herbert Hipp; and four sisters, Doris Ballard, Madeline Fricke, Marilyn Sides, and Helen Denson.
He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Pamela J. Hipp of Crossett; three sons, Harlan Hipp and wife, Luz, of Crossett, Howard Hipp of Pine Bluff, and Freddy Hipp and wife, Jeanne, also of Crossett; four brothers, Ben “Bo” Hipp and wife, Marilyn, of Queen City, TX, Joe Hipp and wife, Lucille, of Reklaw, TX, Pat Hipp and wife, Annette, of Jonesville, LA, and Billy Hipp and wife, Elaine, of Queen City, TX; six grandchildren, Jennifer Hipp, Aileen Hernandez, Aliyah Hipp, Jeremy Hipp, Justin Hipp, and Jaydon Hipp; and one great-grandchild, Eli Reyna; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 3rd at Medders Funeral Home Chapel, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett with Bro. Keith Rose and Pat Hipp officiating followed by an interment at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Mike Harris, Frankie Carter, Sam Perez, Hank Brason, Marty Hipp, and Mike Matthews. Honorary pallbearers will be Hank Via, Dewayne Beard, James Land, Lexie Courson, and J.D. White.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday at Medders Funeral Home.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Garcia and his staff, ACMC's doctors, nurses, and home health department, and a special caregiver, Pauline Wheeler.
