Lawrence "Larry" Lofton, Sr. Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” Clay Lofton, Sr., age 83, of Crossett, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 28, 2017.  He was born in Fair Oak Springs, MS on March 3, 1933, to his parents, Norris Edward and Edna Rae Hanley Lofton.  At the age of twenty, he joined the United States Navy and served as a radio operator “radar man” during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.  He married his bride, Mary Jane Perry in Reno, NV on August 30, 1958, and together along with their family, lived and traveled to numerous places all over the world due to his military service.  After retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy, Mr. Lawrence moved his family to Crossett in 1976, and after completing the necessary certifications, he began working as an HVAC Electrician for Atkins A-Team, where he worked for the next twenty years, then went on to work for A&N Electric.  He loved to hunt and fish and could build absolutely anything out of wood.  He was a very kind, patient man who enjoyed helping others and loved to joke around.  Most importantly, he centered his life around his family, who he loved dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents and six sisters, Lucille Watts, Ruth Hagee, Myrtis Cole, Eva Riggs, Ruby Langford, Allie Lofton, and Bessie Garno; and two brothers, Austin and Ed Lofton.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Lofton of Crossett; two daughters, Karen Saxton and husband Joe of Slaughter, LA, and Lori Palculict of Crossett; one son, Lawrence “Clay” Lofton, Jr. of Crossett; one brother, Aaron Lofton of Brookhaven, MS; nine grandchildren, Jay Saxton, Ashley Doty, and Trent Saxton all of Slaughter, LA, Rebecca Cobb of Bastrop, LA, Amanda Bowden of Bay Ville, NJ, April Gentry of Crossett, Gregory Palculict of Union, MS, Augustus “Gus” Lofton, and Brady “Bradyman” Lofton both of Crossett; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 1st at Medders Funeral Home Chapel, 1564 Hwy 52 W, with Pastors Ronnie Lofton and Dwane Perry, officiating, followed by an interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers will be Lawrence C. Lofton, Jr, Joe W. Saxton, Jr., Joe W. Saxton III, Lawrence “Trent” Saxton, Augustus “Gus” Lofton, Brady Lofton, and Greg Palculict.  Honorary pallbearers are Teddy Huff, Dr. Luis Garcia, Steve White, Mark White, Charles Brown, Bill Lafoon, Bill Wood, Ronnie Mercer, and Timmy Atkins.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 31st at Medders Funeral Home.
