Nancy Marie Marter, 74, of Huttig, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Ashley County Medical Center. She was born on February 14, 1943, and along with her ten brothers and sisters grew up in Crossett, Arkansas. In 1961, she graduated from Crossett High School and later began her first job reading telegraphs for Western Union. After moving to Oklahoma, she worked as a top cook at a local hospital, finished Real Estate School, and eventually ran her own Realtor office. Later she returned to Crossett, and met and married her schoolmate, Bruce Marter, Sr. Together they traveled across the country from coast to coast in their RV and enjoyed family time at their camp on the Ouachita River. She loved to hunt, fish, and garden but especially loved showing horses. Over the years she accumulated many first place ribbons and trophies and was a member of the American Fox Trotter’s Association. She was also a devoted member of the Community Chapel Baptist Church, and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Lonie Barnett Watt; and eight siblings, Lindsey Watt, Anna Lou Rushing, Clarice Joiner, Melvin Watt, Leroy “Pie-Jo” Watt, Myrtleen Jenkins, Troy Watt and Clyde Watt.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Marter, Sr. of Huttig; one son, Louis Melanson and fiancé Connie of Hamburg; one daughter, Bonnie Vest and husband Greg of Magnolia; two step-daughters, Debbie Adkins and husband Robert of Crossett, and Sharon Burnett and husband Eugene also of Crossett; a step-son, Bruce Marter, Jr. of Crossett; one brother, Jessie “Jap” Watt and wife Lois of Crossett; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 30th at Crossroads Cemetery with Bro. Lloyd Townsend officiating under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 29th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett.
