Sandra Rice Obituary

Mrs. Sandra Alexis (Gardner) Rice "Nanny", age 67, of Crossett went to be with her Loving LORD on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado.  She was born July 16, 1947 in Crossett to Luke "Buddy" and Marie (Moseley) Gardner.  She graduated from Crossett High School in May of 1965 where she participated in Madrigals, All-State Choir and All-Regional Choir.  Her hobbies were reading, writing stories, playing the piano and organ, singing for her LORD, and sending out cards for all occasions.  Some people called her "THE CARD LADY".  She loved children.  Her grandchildren's friends and their children all called her "Nanny".  The more children she had around, the happier she was.  Sandie was pianist at Pine Forest Missionary Baptist Church for 20 years where she helped with the children's choir.  She was pianist at Pleasant Lane Baptist Church and was the pianist and director of the teen choir.  She has been a member of South Main Baptist Church since 1995.  She loved taking care of people and said she was put on earth to take care of her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Luke and Marie Gardner; her grandparents, Annie, Lois and Alex Moseley; Luke and Ora Lee Gardner and her in-laws, Floyd and Hattie (Carter) Rice; one uncle, Jimmy Moseley, and one sister in-law, Margie Gardner.  She is survived by her husband, Ronald Wayne Rice whom she married on July 23, 1965; one son, Timmy Rice and wife Sandy of Crossett; one daughter, Karen Harrington and husband Keith of Crossett; six grandsons, Zach Meeks and wife Jana, Chase Meeks, Luke Rice, Jesse Harrington and wife Brittani, Logan Harrington, and Garrett Harrington; four great granddaughters, Alexis Bell Meeks (who was named after her), Jaycee Janine Meeks, Rylee Brooke Nolan, and Charleigh Grace Meeks all of Crossett who were the loves of her life.  She also had one sister, Janice Little and husband Dudley of Barling, AR; one brother, Ronnie Gardner of El Dorado; three brother in-laws, Jimmy Wade Rice and wife Margaret, Dale Rice and wife Donna, and Billy Rice and wife Nikki; and one sister in-law, Kaye Robinson and husband Jimmy all of Crossett; one aunt, Pat Moseley of Pine Bluff, one special cousin, Hurley Moseley and wife Kay of Texas, and many more cousins, nieces, nephews and so many friends it is impossible to count, but they know who they are.  Her extended family included Daryl Humphrey who passed away in May of 2013, Kaye Gannon who passed away Sept. 10, 2009, Gayle Strebeck and husband Tommy, Rita Grider and all of their children and grandchildren who called her "Aunt Sandie".

Visitation will be at South Main Baptist Church on Saturday, Feb. 28th from 6-9 p.m.  A Funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 1, at 2 p.m.also at South Main Baptist Church with Bro Don Justice and Bro. Lyle Hern officiating followed by a burial at Carter Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett.  Pallbearers will be Craig Pennington, Shane Copes, Tom Baldwin, Jim Brooks, Johnnie Bolin, and Bill Runyan.  Honorary Pallbearers are John Pennington, Fred Ricks, Kyle Ricks, Billy Morris, Ray Whitehead, Billy Harrington, Pete Meeks, Stephen Bolin, Mark Trammell, and Dr. Clinton Netherland and staff.
