Wesley Wayne Swan, 73, of Crossett passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016, at the St. Vincent's Hospital Hospice Unit in Little Rock. He was born on August 22, 1942, to his parents, Radford Wesley and Angelene Swan. He was a lifetime resident of Crossett where he met and married his sweetheart of 53 years, Sharon Leigh Swan. Wesley, also known as, “Birdman”, worked for 43 years as a Foreman at Georgia Pacific and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, woodworking, and travelling to various festivals where he could be found selling root beer and roasted peanuts. “Pappy”, as he was affectionately called by his family, was a fun loving man, who was always cracking jokes and making people laugh. He could be classified as a “do it yourselfer” and could fix just about anything. He loved his Razorback sports, Fox News, and most of all, his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and one great-granddaughter, Elysa Donley.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Leigh Dodd Swan of Crossett; three sons, Kenneth Wayne Swan and wife Pam of Crossett, James Ritchie Swan of Bella Vista, and Alan Delane Swan and wife Nancy of El Dorado; one daughter, Christie Carter and husband Stephen of Hot Springs; one sister, Judith Wallace and husband Andrew of Crossett; four grandchildren, Shauna Nicole Songer and husband John of Hot Springs, Brooke Donley and husband Rob of Cabot, Daniel Carter of Hot Springs, and Samuel Caleb Swan of Crossett; and two great-grandchildren, Evan and Emma Donley of Cabot.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 31st at Crossroads Cemetery with Pastors Justin Akers and Darlene Akers officiating under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Rice, Wayne Dodson, Sam McMahan, Doug Neal, Sam Trey Land, Johnnie Leigh, Samuel Swan, Gregory Don Goodwin, and Merchel Roberts.
Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., Saturday, July 30th at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in North Crossett.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Gideon’s International or the Ashley County Humane Society.
