William “Bill” Aubrey Murphy, 76, of Crossett, died on Sunday, February 4, 2018. He was born in Crossett, AR on December 22, 1941, to the late Aubrey and Gladys Dale Lochala Murphy. He was a member of the South Main Baptist Church, the CHS class of 1960, and the Klassy Kruzers Street Rod Club. For 44 years, he worked for Georgia Pacific in the maintenance department; most of which was spent as an E & I Supervisor until his retirement in 2004. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing with his wife, deer or duck hunting, building street rods in his shop, traveling across the country with his wife in the RV, and watching the Arkansas Razorbacks play.
He was the “voice of wisdom and reason” for his family and always the one to call for assistance when they didn’t follow his instructions the first time. He was the “chief cook” for all family gatherings, former president of the Klassy Kruzers Street Rod Club, and a selfless man who adored his wife and loved his grandchildren whom he gave nicknames. Bill was a patriotic man, who loved his country and had a heart just as big.
He is preceded in death only by his parents and survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda Gayle Murphy, of Crossett; four children, Lynn Murphy Holliday of White House, TN, Jeffrey Murphy and wife, Amy, of Crossett, Louise Weeks and husband, Toby, of Apopka, FL, and John Welch and wife, DeAnn, of Crossett; two brothers, Billy Harold Murphy of Bryan, TX, and James Edward Murphy of Crossett; ten grandchildren, Andrea Welch, Coby Holliday, Edward Meadows, Craig Holliday, Brandon Weeks, Evan Murphy, Hunter Welch, Christopher Holliday, Maddie Murphy, and Cade Holliday; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 10th, at the South Main Baptist Church with Pastor Lyle Hern officiating, followed by an interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Coby Holliday, Edward Meadows, Craig Holliday, Brandon Weeks, Evan Murphy, Hunter Welch, Christopher Holliday, and Cade Holliday. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Klassy Kruzers Street Rod Club.
Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 9th, at South Main Baptist Church.
