Ronald Toon Obituary

Ronnie Toon, 77, of Crossett passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his family.  Coach Toon was born on June 9, 1946, in Fulton, Kentucky to his parents, Elden D. Toon and Mary Mozell Harwood Toon.  He grew up in Chicago and loved to tell stories about his fond childhood memories there.  He graduated from Drew Central High School in 1964 and then attended Arkansas A&M College where he played basketball.  He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1971.  He always jokingly referred to this as the best 6 years of his life.  He was a proud Phi Lambda Chi fraternity brother at A&M where he made many lifelong friends.

Coach Toon later married Sheila Morgan and resided in Lake Village where they happily raised their only child, Robert.  Robert was the apple of his eye and shared his love of sports.  Coach Toon was a teacher and coach at Lakeside High School and loved to share stories about his days working at the Vlasic pickle plant.  He later met and married his love and best friend, Janet, and transferred to Crossett High School where he taught History, a variety of math classes, and coached girls’ softball, golf, girls’ basketball, tennis, and football.  He and Janet loved to fish every chance they got, showcasing a healthy dose of competition between the two of them.

Coach Toon was a loyal Razorback fan; you could spot his vehicle a mile away with all of the Razorback stickers and magnets covering all surfaces, complete with flags flying, year around.  He was a member of the Prairie Country Club where he loved to golf.  A lover of the great outdoors, he was an avid hunter and over the years a member of Railroad & Bozeman Deer Camps.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elden D. Toon, and Mary and Monroe Wilkerson; his only son, Robert Daniel Toon; his previous wife, Sheila Morgan Dixon; and his only niece, Michelle Renee Wade.

Coach Toon is survived by his wife of 25 years, Janet Swan Toon; sister, Donna Norton and husband, Eddie, of Union City, Tennessee; three bonus children, Eric Sansing of Crossett, Stephanie Goza and husband, Ron, of Crossett, Georganna Cossey and husband, Josh, of Hamburg; his grandchildren; Jordan Sansing and wife Tynasha, Blaise Sansing, Michael Mayeaux, AddieSue Morgan, Caleb Cossey, Elijah Cossey, Jackson Toon, Lily Toon, Averi Toon; and one great-granddaughter, Ronin Sansing.

Funeral services are 2 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Wallers Chapel Methodist Church with Bro. Jim Faulk and Bro. Toby Austin officiating.  Burial will be in the Carlock Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Jerry Jeffers, Caleb Cossey, Elijah Cossey, Chris Felts, John Paul Swett and Shane Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers are his Phi Lambda Chi fraternity brothers.
