Billy Howie Obituary

Billy Howie, 81, of Crossett, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at the St. Francis Medical Center.  He was born on September 3, 1936, to Milton and Helen Howie.  He was a lifetime resident of Crossett and graduated Crossett High School in 1955.  After graduation, he began working at Georgia Pacific and eventually retired in 1997 as a machine tender in the tissue mill after 42 years.

He was a deacon and a founding member of the South Main Baptist Church, loved the Lord, loved his church family, and enjoyed greeting people while passing out bulletins every Sunday.

He often spent his free time at his camp on Lake Chicot fishing, in the deer woods, or getting the current news from his buddies at Andy’s Restaurant.  Billy also enjoyed going to hear his musician friends play guitar, watching football games and westerns, and hanging out with his grandchildren whom he adored.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Milton Richard and Helen Vines Toney Howie; his wife, Gail Ingram Howie; and one sister, Betty Layne Howie.

He is survived by two daughters, Cathy Howie and Cindy Craig both of Crossett; four grandchildren, Brad Howie, A.J. Craig, Michael Knight, and Angie Craig all of Crossett; two great-grandchildren, Amber Sinks, and Jase Craig of Crossett; and one nephew, David Burchell of Holyoke, MA; along with a host of other friends, relatives, and kids he loved and claimed as his own.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 3rd at the South Main Baptist Church, 2801 Main St., Crossett, with Bro. Lyle Hern and Bro. Roy Grantham officiating, followed by an interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers are Danny Dumas, Clint Barnett, Johnny Miller, Ronald Rice, Greg Burnside, Ryan Edney, Stan Stahley, and Jimmy Curl.  Honorary pallbearers are Jackie Burchfield, Mr. Billy’s Sunday School Class, and his Andy’s buddies.
