Billy Sawyer, Jr. Obituary

Billy Nelson Sawyer, Jr., 57, of Crossett, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Crossett, Arkansas on October 31, 1959, to his parents Billy Sr, and Betty Sawyer. Although he was raised in Milo, he has made Crossett his home for the past 30 years. He married his wife Vickie on May 5, 1986, and they attended Hughes Chapel Church in Beekman, LA. Billy was a welder/pipefitter and worked for various construction companies for 35 years before opening his own welding shop. He was known by his employers for his good work skills and he knew how to do his job and do it well. He enjoyed hunting and eventually won the Ohio Buckmasters contest, after his wife had registered him 17 different times. Vickie said it was “God’s gift to him”. He was able to take his son Josh and killed an 18” 7 point buck. When he wasn’t hunting for deer, turkey, ducks, etc., he was crappie and bass fishing.  As long as he was outdoors, he was happy.  His grandchildren meant the world to him and he treasured every moment he could spend with them.  He was an honest man who was straight forward, strong willed and left a lasting impression on all who met him.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents; Willy and Nelly Sawyer, and Hubert and Gladis Cannon; along with his best friend, Virgil Donaldson.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Vickie K. Sawyer of Crossett; one son, Josh Sawyer Sr. and wife Heather also of Crossett; one daughter, Lacey Sawyer Jordan and husband Curtis of Beekman, LA; three grandsons, Joshua, Jr., Bradley, and Noah Sawyer all of Crossett; and three granddaughters, Ema, Elana, and ,soon to arrive, Elivia Jordan all of Beekman; his parents, Billy, Sr. and Betty Sawyer, of Crossett; one sister, Virginia Sawyer of Gonzalez, LA; and one brother, Billy G. Sawyer and wife Wendy of Hot Springs, AR.
