Buford Ray Brown, Sr., 84, of Crossett passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017, at home. He was born in Pickens, Arkansas on September 13, 1932, to his parents, Kyrel George, and Willie Mae Barnes Brown. He was raised in Chicot County, and along with his five siblings, worked alongside his parents as sharecroppers. As an adult, he began driving trucks and was employed by Georgia Pacific for many years. He later moved to Crossett and eventually opened Brown’s Cafe and Fish Market which he owned and operated for 30 years. Buford enjoyed fishing, hunting, raising his coon dogs, and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Virginia Marie Henson Brown; one sister, Gertrude Clay; and three brothers, Lamar Brown, Tom Arthur Brown, and Raymond Brown.
He is survived by his five children, Ray Brown and wife, Stacie, of Downsville, LA, Cindi Robbins and husband, Mike, of Crossett, Tammy Renee Chenoweth and husband, Don Paul, of Welch, Ok, Ricky Brown and wife, Tina, of Wilmar, AR, and Ray Arlond Denny and wife, Lee, of Oklahoma City, OK; one sister, Mary Ann Jackson of Mesa, AZ; along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 11th at Medders Funeral Home Chapel, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett, followed by an interment at Tyro Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Brandon Martin, Alex Martin, Raymond Brown, Dale Norrell, Dee Wisecarver, and Philip McDonald.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 10th at Medders Funeral Home.
