Burl “Lexie” Courson, 81, of Crossett, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at his home. He was born on May 14, 1937, and often referred to himself as a “37 Model”. Born and raised in Crossett, he opened Lexie’s Parts and Supply in 1969 and worked in the store nearly everyday since. He had an uncanny memory and could remember parts as well as the family history of most of Ashley County’s residents.
Lexie was extremely sharp, could fix just about anything, and enjoyed tinkering with his collection of old muscle cars which he accumulated through the years. He had a big heart and as his customers left his store they often heard, “If I can do anything to help you, let me know”, which he did often without hesitation.
He was a kidder, had a nickname for everyone, and never met a stranger. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren as they loved him, always bragging about them and thoroughly enjoyed going to watch their games.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George Burl and Annie Lou Byrd Courson; one brother, Scott Courson; and one sister, Melba Murphy.
He is survived by one son, George Courson and wife, Stacy, of Crossett; two daughters, Belinda Jackson and husband, Ralph, of Crossett, and Debbie Nichols and husband, Jim, of Fullerton, CA; one sister, Robbie Cannon; and one brother, Charlie Frank Courson and wife, Candace, all of Crossett; three grandchildren, Tyler, Brandon, and Tanner Courson also of Crossett; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 14th, at Medders Funeral Home Chapel, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett, with Bro. Keith Boseman, officiating, followed by an interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Tyler, Brandon, and Tanner Courson, Mickey and Dan Courson, Wayde Jackson, Chris Byrd, and Jeff Marabanian. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Jackson, Danny Courson, Steve Courson, Rusty Courson, Brett Courson, Thomas Glen Childers, Jim Crow, Johnny Bolin, Charles Noble, James Land, Darrell Johnson, Charles Moore, and Warren Schilder.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, January 13th at Medders Funeral Home.
