Duwayne J. Pittman, 72, of Crossett, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Life Touch Hospice Center in El Dorado. He was born on August 5, 1945, in Eupora, MS to his parents, Marion Harrison and Christine Morgan Elkins Pittman. He grew up in a family of 9 children in Eupora, was a lifelong member of Walthall Baptist Church and married his sweetheart of 53 years, Ginger Edwards, on May 19, 1965. Duwayne was a Mason and served 5 years in the Mississippi National Guard. In 1967, he accepted a position with Georgia Pacific as the Maintenance Manager for the Mid Continents Division where, except for 5 years with International Paper, he spent his long career and eventually retired in 1995.
Duwayne was a compassionate man who would give the shirt off his back to a stranger in need or randomly stop to help a neighbor clean up their yard. He was also a very talented builder, whether it was a treehouse for his kids, a wheelchair ramp and accessories for a friend, or the family lake house, he could create and build just about anything, but most of all he focused on building and nurturing his relationship with his family, who meant everything to him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kenneth Pittman; six brothers, Johnny Elkins, James Elkins, Jerry Elkins, Hugh Elkins, M.H. Pittman, and Buddy Pittman. He is survived by his wife, Ginger Pittman of Crossett; one son, Duwayne Pittman, Jr. and wife, Suzanne, of Houston, TX; one daughter, Mackie Ozment and special son-in-law, Chuck, of Crossett; one sister, Sherry Pittman Moreland and husband, Dan, of Starkville, MS; one brother, Robert Pittman of Eupora, MS; six grandchildren, Jack Pittman, Erikson Pittman, Kenton Pittman, Joe Ruesewald, Grant Ozment, and Julia Ozment; along with two great-grandchildren, Blayze and Kently Pittman.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 10th at Medders Funeral Home Chapel, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett with Pastors Lyle Hern and Jamie Staley officiating, followed by an interment at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Eupora, MS under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Crossett pallbearers are Marty McClain, Paul McClain, Kenton Pittman, Joe Ruesewald, Chuck Ozment and Jerry Ozment. Mississippi pallbearers are Travis Wright, Joey Wright, Kenton Pittman, Joe Ruesewald, Doug Elkins, Don Elkins, Mike Elkins, and Steve Elkins. Honorary pallbearers are Wilbur Austin and Tyson Thompson.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, April 9th at Medders Funeral Home.
