Elizabeth Swan Woods, 88, of Hamburg, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018, at her home. She was born on December 2, 1929, to her parents, Winford Franklin and Nora Murphy Swan and was a lifelong resident of Ashley County. She began teaching school at an early age and after receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, she taught kindergarten for many years in her backyard and also taught at the Carousel School in Crossett. She was a member of Egypt Missionary Baptist Church, the Eastern Star, and the Gideon’s Auxillary and enjoyed studying genealogy, growing flowers, and especially loved to read.
Along with her parents; she is preceded in death by two husbands, Chester Bowles, and Lexie P. Woods; one son, Neal Bowles; and one sister, Willa Dean “Stumpy” Ray.
She is survived by one son, Philip Bowles, and wife, Wendy, of Hamburg; one daughter, Patricia Lockridge, and husband, Phillip, of Harrison; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Foreman, Brooke Ingram, Ray Dodge, Hali Jeffers, K.C. Lockridge McBride, Sarah Lockridge, Meredith Lockridge, and Richard Bowles; along with nine great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 17th at the Medders Funeral Home Chapel, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett with Bro. James Morris and her son, Bro. Phillip Bowles officiating, followed by an interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
