Evelyn Tanksley Obituary

Evelyn Tanksley, 81, of Crossett, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at the CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock.  She was born on February 12, 1937, in Crossett, AR to Walter Henry and Aldia Lee Jones.  For many years she worked as a cashier at the old Phillips 66 Service Station besides being a loving homemaker and raising a large family of seven children.  She was a strong Christian woman who never met a stranger and was known for her warm and loving heart.  In her younger years she enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and tending her flowers.  She also enjoyed cooking and in her later years was known to even pull her walker up to the stove.  Her happiest times were holidays in her home and sharing a hot home cooked meal with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and her husband and fishing partner of 47 years, Clyde Tanksley; one grandson, Robert Harold Wesson; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Wesson; one son in-law, Kenneth Wesson; and one grandson in-law, Ted Franklin.

She is survived by three sons, Billy Clyde Tanksley (Freda) of Hamburg, Johnny Steve Tanksley (Pam) also of Hamburg; and Jeff Tanksley (Mandy) of Crossett; four daughters, Annette Wesson of Hamburg, Barbara Kelley (Wayne) of Alexander, AR; Rita Walters (John) of Fountain Hill, and Joyce Collier (Dewayne) of Crossett; two sisters, Catherine Teel and Ellen Jackson both of Crossett; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 29th at the New Life Church in Crossett with Pastor Ricky Pack officiating, followed by an interment at Promise Land Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers are her grandsons, Andy Tanksley, David Kelley, Brian Kelley, Chris Walters, Waylon Jackson, Brandon Collier, Ryan Tanksley, and a special seat in memory of Robert Harold Wesson.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, January 28th at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett.
