Mary “Frances” Harrington Blissett, 95, of Crossett, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at the Crossett Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on February 17, 1923, in Crossett, Arkansas, to her parents, Abner Morris and Fannie Barnett Harrington. She was one of fourteen children and grew up working on the family farm along with helping care for her younger siblings. After marrying and having children of her own, she continued the role of caregiver for her family, by caring for her mother until her death and her daughter, Ruby Dean.
Frances enjoyed quilting and working in her vegetable and flower gardens and even after her physical health declined, transitioning from walker to tiller or lawn mower, was a common practice.
She also loved cooking for church functions, the “Wasp Nest” deer camp, and especially her family, whom she loved dearly.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Blissett; one son, Larry S. Blissett; six brothers, Curtis Harrington, Edward Harrington, Amon Harrington, Robert Harrington, Roy Harrington, and Gerald Harrington; two sisters, Estelle Chandler and Syble Standridge; and one granddaughter Laurie Ann White . She is survived by five children, Lavern Pennington, Charles Blissett, Ruby Dean Blissett, Jackie Harrington, and Robbie Harrington and wife, Karen, all of Crossett; four sisters, Essie Meyer of Crossett, Jessie Harvey of Elberta, AL, Rose White of Little Rock, and Reatha Laws of Harrison; one brother, Billy Harrington and wife, Alta, of Crossett; twelve grandchildren, Wayne, Kenny, Pam, Royce, Sharon, Larry, Brandon, Steven,Roger, Brian, Traci, and Brandy; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 20th at the Second Baptist Church, 3142 Highway 169 S, in Crossett, with Bro. Lloyd Townsend and Bro. Travis Roberts officiating, followed by an interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Harold Wayne Pennington, Kenny Pennington, Jerry Coyle, Royce Blissett, Jason Dykes, and Ronnie Joe Dykes. Honorary pallbearers are Matt Brooks, Larry Blissett, Jr., Josh Patton, and Kenny Laughlin.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Saturday, May 19th at Second Baptist Church.
