Joe Sasser Obituary

 

Joe M. Sasser, 80, of Crossett, passed away peacefully Monday, May 29, 2017, at the Ashley County Medical Center.  He was born on June 23, 1936, in Monticello, Arkansas to his parents, Ira Lee and Virginia Lang Sasser.  Joe was raised in Collins, AR, and graduated from Dermot High School. He eventually moved to Crossett, as an adult, where he and his wife raised three children. He was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and worked as a Lab Technician for G.P. until he retired after 42 ½ years. Joe enjoyed the outdoors and had many fond memories of spending time with family and friends during deer season. He took pleasure in reading adventure novels, listening to the blues, and telling a good joke. Joe loved his family and never turned down a chance to talk about being Poppa Joe to his grands. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Shoops Sasser; his second wife, Joy Carolyn Watson Sasser; and an infant brother.

He is survived by one daughter, Carla Sasser Christian and husband Bill of Germantown, TN; two sons, Scott A. Sasser and wife Donna of Hamburg, and Jason Lang Sasser of Crossett; and two step-daughters, Debbie Thompson Sharp and husband, Bruce also of Crossett, and Shelly Thompson Diestel and husband, Jim of Fort Worth, TX; along with 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 3rd, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1533 Hwy 52W, Crossett, with Pastor Eric Hodge officiating, followed by an interment at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Dennis Maxwell, Zach Jackson, Stephen Sharp, Grayson Campbell, Daniel Hassell and Stephen Sharp, II. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bud Bulloch, Larry Land,Thomas Glen Childers, John Pennington, Jimmy Simms and Bob Kizer.

Visitation will be from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, in Joe’s honor.
