John Curtis Nelms Obituary

John Curtis Nelms, 72, of Lake Village, formerly of Crossett, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019, at his home.  He was born on January 19, 1947, to his parents, John Cecil and Emma Florence Streeter Nelms.

He grew up in the Snyder area, along with his eight siblings, and worked on the family farm.  At the age of twenty, Curtis joined the U. S. Army, and eventually returned to the states and began work as a logger.

Curtis loved being in the woods and basically doing anything outdoors.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was even introduced to his wife of 46 years, Connie Stanley, at the deer camp.

He was a patient, kind, and loving man, who adored his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Benji Nelms; three brothers, Cecil, AB, and Leo Nelms; and two nephews, Terry and Bill Nelms.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Sue Stanley Nelms; and daughter, Tammie Woods and husband, James, all of Lake Village; two brothers, Jackie Nelms and wife, Kathy, of Snyder, and Frankie Nelms and wife, Brenda of Crossett; three sisters, Betty King Shirley of Vaiden, MS, Marcelle Buckner and husband, Jerry of Hamburg, and Kathy Tanksley and fiancé, Terry Greenwood, of Hamburg; two grandchildren, Josh Woods of Lake Village, and Tara Woods of Monticello; three great-grandchildren, Dalton Woods, Paisley Woods, and Kayden Chavis; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 17th at Medders Funeral Home Chapel, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett, with Pastor Larry Hickman and Bro.
