Lois W. Underwood, 102, of Crossett, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at the LeGrand Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Bastrop, Louisiana. She was born on March 13, 1917, to her parents, Henry and Sally Joiner Wise. She was raised in the Crossett Camp, and having lost her mother at the age of eight, she and her six siblings were propelled into adulthood at an early age. She remained in Crossett most of her life with the exception of six years in New York working for the Marlin Rockwell Factory making airplane parts for the war. She was a machine operator at Chase Bag Co. in Crossett for fifteen years and was a member of the First Church of God for fifty-eight years, where she also taught Sunday School.
Lois was a strict, but loving mother, and grandmother and always lots of fun to be around. She enjoyed cooking for her family, canning, crocheting, sewing, and reading murder/mystery novels. She loved her family and always strived to be the best mother that she could be.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of seventy-five years, Allen Christopher Underwood; two sons, Bob Allen Underwood and Gerald Lee Underwood; four sisters, Cecil Hanson, Margie Johnston, Marguerite Sutton, and Precious Hughes; two brothers, Gordon and Terrell Wise; one son in-law, Frank Rawls; and one grandson in-law, Jerry Wane Eldridge.
She is survived by one son, Gene Underwood and wife, Pat, of Anderson, S.C.; one daughter, Pat Rawls of Crossett; six grandchildren, Don Rawls (Diane), Bill Rawls, Kimberly Eldridge, Randy Underwood (Nancy), Angie Wilson, and Glee Allen Burt; along with numerous great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 16th at the First Church of God, 1501 Main St., in Crossett with Bro. Will Hughes and Bro. John McGregor officiating, followed by interment at Pinewood Memorial Park, if weather permits, under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Frank Rawls, Wesley Rawls, Seth Sturgeon, Don Bryant, Darrell Wise, and Corey Catalanotto.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church prior to the service.
