Mildred Morphis Obituary

Mildred Elvis Morphis, 95, of Lake Village, passed away Monday, October 16, 2017, at the Pinewood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Crossett.   She was born on October 26, 1921, in Oak Grove, LA, to her parents,  James and Ethel Rollinson Sanders.  She married J.V. Morphis, in 1939, and worked as a professional seamstress for the Lake Village Garment Factory until it closed, and then later retired at the Eudora Garment Factory. She was also a homemaker until her battle with Alzheimer’s began.  Mildred was a loving woman who enjoyed taking care of and cooking, for her entire family. She had a vibrant singing voice that could be heard from all over, and her stern, but loving, attitude is what molded her family and their values.  She also enjoyed anonymously cooking meals for local “shut-in’s", and was a member of First Freewill Church of Lake Village.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 45 years, J.V. Morphis; two sons, James Wendell, and Vernoil Morphis; and three brothers, Roscoe Sanders, James D. Sanders and Eufa D. Sanders.

Mildred is survived by her two sons; Donnie Morphis and his life companion Deb Sturdivant, of Crossett, and Jackie Morphis of Danville; one brother, Clifford Sanders of Coushatta, LA; one sister, Doris Fesler of Kansas; eleven grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren, and fourteen great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at the Medders Funeral Home Chapel, with burial at the Bayou Mason Cemetery in Lake Village with pastors Ronnie Garrett, and Philip Payne officiating. Pallbearers are Christopher Morphis, Wade Morphis, Walker Morphis, Scooter Morphis, Wesley Morphis, and Joe Morphis. Honorary pallbearers are Jason Morphis, Justin Morphis, and Kevin Morphis.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2017, before the service.
