Nathaniel Kidd Obituary

Nathaniel Kidd, 81, of Crossett, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on April 15, 1936, in El Dorado, Arkansas to his parents, Rufus Kidd, Sr. and Cora Lee Dorton Mitchell.  He proudly served in the United States Navy and established his own business, the Modern Cleaning Service in 1969.  He retired from the United States Postal Service on June 1, 2003 after 42 years of service, and was a faithful servant of God as a minister for 30 years and an active member of the Church of Christ.

Nathaniel was a people person who loved to talk, tell stories, and sing.  He was a sharp dresser who enjoyed baking cakes and arranging flowers, traveling to see his kids and grandkids, and following his team, the Arkansas Razorbacks.

He was a hard worker and good provider for his family and saw the value in not only providing food for the table but most importantly, spiritual food for the soul.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Kidd, Sr., Lillie Pearl Kidd, and Cora Lee Dorton Mitchell; and one brother, Rufus J. Kidd, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Velma Burton Kidd, of Crossett; five children, Valerie Phillips and husband, John, of Little Rock, Keith Kidd of Springdale, Roderick Kidd and wife, Shandyla, of Crossett, Kendall Kidd of Atlanta, and Lisa Traylor of Calion; three brothers, George S. Dwight Burns, Brannon Kidd, Kahmron Hymes, Kaylin Lexi Kidd, Kaya C. Kidd, Karlee K. Kidd, Lexi Caldwell, Ryan Smith and Reilley Smith; six great-grandchildren, Paul Wayne Kimbrough, III, Seth Paul Kimbrough, Kalie Burns, Jillian Ann Marie Phillips, Jonathan Phillips, II, and Noah George Phillips; and three god sons, Montreal Simmons, Andrew Simmons, and David Houston, Jr.
