Novelene Berry Obituary

Novelene Arnold Berry, 84, of Winnsboro, Louisiana, formerly of El Dorado, Arkansas, passed away on January 4, 2019, at her home.  She was born in Hamburg, Arkansas on July 14, 1934, to her parents, Issac Samuel and Myrtlene Martin Hopkins.  After graduating from Hamburg High School in 1953, Novelene moved to El Dorado to complete Nursing School which began a fulfilling career as a registered nurse for Warner Brown Hospital that lasted over 25 years.  After the loss of her first husband, she eventually moved to Winnsboro, remarried and began another phase of her life.

Novelene loved to read and especially enjoyed World War II history.  She was known for the beautiful flowers in her yard and sharing her wonderful baked goodies with everyone during the holidays.  She also enjoyed travelling and was proud of having visited most of the 50 states.  She adored her family and her animals, never met a stranger, and had an unforgettable belly laugh that all could recognize.  She was full of life and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and her first husband, Jack Arnold; two brothers, Sammy Hopkins and I.M. Hopkins; and one sister, Braska Ann Gober.

Survivors include her husband, Melvin Berry of Winnsboro, LA; five nieces, Mary Fox (Wayne) of Crossett, Linda Hill (Wayne) of Wisner, LA, Martha Jane Horn of Hamburg, Debra Kay Ford (David) of Sterlington, LA, and Becky McDonald (James) of Hamburg; one sister in-law, Annette Hopkins of Crossett; special great nieces who called her “Nana”, Jennifer Fox Wood and Mary Beth Wood both of Crossett; along with many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 6th at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett, AR, with Bro. George Bates officiating.  Interment will be made at a later date at Pinewood Memorial Park.
