Ray Whitehead Obituary

Raymond Edward Whitehead, 84, of Crossett, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, December 31, 2018, at his home.  He was born on April 8, 1934, to Ed and Pearl Shipman Whitehead.  He was a graduate of Fountain Hill High School, a lifelong resident of Ashley County, and a member of South Main Baptist Church.  He also worked as a pipefitter in maintenance for Georgia Pacific until his retirement in 1999, after 43 years.

Ray was a people person who enjoyed life and had fun wherever he went.  He loved to give nicknames, was known for his “sayings”, and enjoyed agitating and kidding everyone.  He adored his family and especially loved his wife and best friend, Mary,

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Viola Whitehead, and his mother, Pearl Shipman Whitehead.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years who thought the world of him, Mary Linda Whitehead of Crossett; three daughters, Karen Thomas and husband, Bill, of Crossett, Pam Waugh and husband, Vaughn, of Chattanooga, TN, and Sandra Whitehead of Hamburg; two sons, Rayland Whitehead also of Hamburg, and Scott Hampton and wife, Kim, of Patterson, LA; eleven grandchildren, Nicole Williams (Tara), Drew Williams, Shawna Hawkins (Trey), Heather Gifford (Shane), Gwen Raetchel Roush (Brandon), Josh Whitehead, Brandon Hampton, Diana Harper, Scott Harper, Dan Thomas (Shannon), and Alan Thomas (Nancy); twelve great-grandchildren, Avery Hawkins, Gabriella Ray, Emma, Layla, and Addy Carter, Josie Parks, Schuylar Jenkins, Dakota Harper, Caitlin Jasper, Emma Davis, Ben Thomas, and the much anticipated, Tucker Ray Williams, due to make an appearance in March.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 4th at the South Main Baptist Church, 2801 South Main St, Crossett, with Pastor Lyle Hern officiating, followed by an interment at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers are Drew Williams, Trey Hawkins, Shane Carter, Brandon Roush, Brandon Hampton, and Scott Hampton.  Honorary pallbearers are Bill Thomas, Vaughn Waugh, and Mr. Ray’s Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., Thursday, January 3rd at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in North Crossett.
