Sarah Haggard Obituary

Sarah Ceravolo Haggard, age 97, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 4, 2018.  She was born on December 21, 1920, in Birmingham, AL to Jake and Josephine Ceravolo.  Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Lena, Rose, Mary, and Francis; her brothers, Sam, Jake, Joe, and Pete; her husband, James G. Haggard, Sr, and son, James G. Haggard, Jr.   She is survived by one son, John Haggard (Leta) of Sherwood; two daughters, Jenny Lind Allen (John) of Crossett, AR, and Sarah Nan Keathley (Ron) of Conway, AR.; grandchildren, Rachel Haggard of Harrison, Shane Keathley (Teilena) of Greenbriar, Matthew Allen (Kathryn) of Bentonville, Erron Haggard (Elizabeth) of Monterey, CA, Amanda Gaither (Jaret) of Gray, TN, Melissa Clayton (David) of Crossett, and Sam Haggard of North Little Rock;  great-grandchildren, Mariah and Colby Keathley, Michael and JoAnn Clayton, Daniel and Logan Allen, and Jake and Emmett Gaither; along with many nieces, nephews and precious friends.

Sarah received a BA in Religious Education and English from Howard College (now Samford University), a MA in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft Worth, TX and a Certification in Teaching from TCU in Ft. Worth, TX.  She spent her college summers as a Summer Missionary teaching Bible courses, VBS, Sunday School, Training Union, and missions throughout Alabama.  She served at Calvary Baptist Church, Birmingham, AL, as Youth Minister and Missionary-at-large.  She served by her husband’s side as he pastored churches throughout their 46 years together in Phillip, MS, Dardanelle, AR, Ocean Springs, MS, Holland, AR, Conway, AR, Louisville, MS and Perryville, AR.  She taught elementary school over 25 years in MS, TX, and AR, retiring at the age of 72. 

She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Crossett teaching Sunday School, VBS, AWANAS, and was involved in Women on Missions.  She was the author of her life story, Therefore Sarah Laughed.  She was an avid note writer and encourager to her family and friends of all ages.  Her life theme was, “It is ALL about Jesus!” and her passion was telling anyone she met about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ until her last breath.

Services in Crossett, AR include Visitation at Medders Funeral Home on Saturday, July 7, from 7-9 p.m., Praise and Worship Service at First Baptist Church on Sunday, July 8 at 2:00 p.m. and Graveside Service in Conway, AR at Crestlawn Memorial Park on Monday, July 9 at 10:30 a.m. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 701 Main St. Crossett, AR 71635 or to the Gideon Ministry.  Pallbearers will be her grandsons and Curtis Brewer and honorary pallbearers, her great-grandsons.
