Sylvia Joyce Johnson, 82, of Crossett, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2019, at the Ashley County Medical Center. She was born on February 11, 1937, in Ashland City, TN to her parents, Robert and Maimie Binkley Watts. As a child, she attended school in Detroit, MI and Nashville, TN. She worked as a licensed cosmetologist, a certified nursing technician and later for Coleman Realty, as an apartment manager.
Sylvia was a member of South Main Baptist Church and she enjoyed studying the word, making beautiful jewelry, and oil painting.
She was a Godly mother who guided her children toward Jesus and always put others before herself.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild, Tia Johnson.
She is survived by three children, Carlton Johnson of Crossett, Shirley Settle and husband, Chuck, of Hendersonville, TN, and Robert Johnson and wife, Chu Ok, of Albany, NY; six grandchildren, Chanda Sipes, Meika Wilbanks, Leisha Jones, Brent Johnson, David Adkinson, and Jana Johnson; eleven great-grandchildren, Codee Burkes, Shianne Sipes, Justice Pamplin, Jayla Pamplin, Lilly Wilbanks, Chieka Johnson, Theodore Johnson, and Bailee, Bryson, Bella, and Brooklynn Adkinson; along with two great-great-grandchildren, Nyasia and Aiden.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 18th at South Main Baptist Church, 2801 Main St., Crossett, with Pastor Lyle Hern officiating, followed by interment at Rolfe Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Robbie Jones, Justice Pamplin, Brent Johnson, Royce Swaim, Gary Booker, and Marty Edgar. Honorary pallbearers are Ed Payne, and Roy Grantham's Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 17th at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett.
