Annie Wedgeworth Obituary

Annie Mae Wedgeworth, of DeQuincy, Louisiana, passed away on February 2, 2024, at the age of 90. She was born on May 18, 1933, to her parents; Napoleon and Elizabeth Miller Duhon and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in DeQuincy, Louisiana.

Annie was a dedicated housewife and homemaker, pouring her heart and soul into creating a warm and loving home for her family. Her love extended beyond the walls of her household, as she generously volunteered her time in the nursery at her church and worked at the polls during elections.

Annie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved shopping, listening to music, growing vegetables, and going to the hair salon to get all prettied up.  She also enjoyed leisure activities, including playing Pokeno with her friends, and going fishing and crabbing.

She was outspoken with a sassy demeanor. She was born the baby of seven girls, the princess, and was often spoiled by her sisters, a practice continued by her husband of fifty years.

Family was paramount to Annie, with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren holding a special place in her heart. She affectionately referred to them as "Grannie's bebes," showering them with love and creating treasured memories.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Emmitt Wedgeworth; and six sisters, Mary Miles, Caroline Spell, Ina Douglas, Eula Mae Duhon, Dorthy Hebert and Hilda McLaughlin.

She leaves behind three daughters; Cathy Banken (JC) of Sulphur, Louisiana, Judy Gibbs (Lloyd) of Crossett, Arkansas, and Alicia Bennett (Jason) of Farmerville, Louisiana; along with five grandchildren; Joey Banken, Annette Spell (Bill), Olivia Dorman (Jacob), Daniel Gibbs (Demetria) and Timothy Gibbs; and eight great-grandchildren; Josh Banken, Bryce Banken, Meghan Spell, Mackenzie Spell, Kaiden Spell, Jude Dorman, Levi Dorman, and Rhett Dorman.

Services will be held at the New Hope Baptist Church in DeQuincy, LA, under the direction of the Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home.  Please refer to their website for service dates and times.
