Arrie Donell Govan Jr., 84, of Crossett, Arkansas, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving children. He was born on December 17, 1941, in Huttig, Arkansas.
Mr. Arrie will be remembered by all who knew him for his strong work ethic and unwavering faith. He lived a Christian life and served as a spiritual motivator to many, faithfully sharing scripture as part of his daily morning ritual. He was very proud of his family and known for his easygoing, laid-back nature, rarely becoming upset. He enjoyed horses, fishing, and hunting, but above all, he loved the Lord. He also dedicated 49 years of service to Georgia Pacific Plywood Mill.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arrie Govan Sr.; his mother, Teresa Smedley Govan; his wife of 32 years, Colene Mary Govan; three brothers, Donell, Vernon and Lovell Govan; one sister, Ira Faye Henry; one niece, Leslie Govan; one granddaughter, Tanettra Perkins; and two grandsons, Julius McDaniels and Jalen Warren.
Left to honor his memory are his children: three sons, Reginald Govan (Eva) of Crossett, Reginald Payton (Raphaela) of El Dorado, Arkansas, and Aaron Govan III (Shirkella) of Jacksonville, Arkansas; two daughters, Cynthia Govan Hodges of Monticello, Arkansas, and Marlene Sanchez of Maumelle, Arkansas; one sister, Betty Yarbough (Albert) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two brothers, Bennie Earl Govan (Faye) of Huttig, Arkansas, and James Edward Govan (Charlene), also of Huttig, Arkansas; grandchildren, Joshua , Shanae (Drew), Spencer (Ashley), Kyelah, Kaylon, Jaylynn, Reginald Jr., Brandon, Promise, Christian, Deon, Hannah, Zaylen, and Chloe, Alexia & Gabrialle; along with 11 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25, at Living Word Church of God in Christ, 2109 S. Main St., Crossett, Arkansas, with Pastor Jerry Jefferson and Pastor Mona Arnold, officiating. Interment will follow at Huttig Ballpark Cemetery on Otto Nash Road in Huttig, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Lawrence Tucker, Calvin Barnett, Freddie Hargraves, Derrick Campbell, Bobby Woodberry, Wilson Owens Jr., and Greg Payne. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren along with the great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W., Crossett, Arkansas 71635.
