Betty T. McCay, 90, of Crossett, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022. She was born on January 28, 1932, to her parents, Casey J. and Mervin Hopper Townsend. Betty was a lifelong resident of Crossett, a 1949 graduate of Crossett High School, and a member of the Presbyterian Church.
At fourteen years old, her first paying job was at the Crossett Theater as their popcorn popper. She later worked for many years at the Crossett Water Commission and the Crossett Paper Mills Employees Federal Credit Union where she eventually retired.
Betty enjoyed life in general. She and her late husband, Samuel, loved to fish and traveled many miles together. Her passion for cooking led her to accumulate a vast collection of cookbooks which she often read and her crafting skills such as sewing, knitting, and crocheting were top notch.
Betty was a cutup. She loved to laugh and dance and especially enjoyed singing, never missing an opportunity to sing “happy birthday” to each member of the family. She was a fun and cheerful soul who loved her family and adored her grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Samuel E. McCay.
She leaves behind two sons, Scott McCay (Judy), and Andy McCay; and one sister, Jimmie Wood all of Crossett; along with four grandchildren, Angela Bass (Steve), Kelly Dumas, Caitlin Faris (Nathan), and Josh McCay; and four great-grandchildren, Sydney Dumas, Ashleigh and Austin Letterman, and Mollie Faris.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 30th, at the Crossroads Cemetery with Pastors Jim Faulk and Toby Austin officiating.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the cemetery prior to the service.
In the event of inclement weather, the services will be held at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
