Betty Lou (Stanley) SledOctober 22, 1940 ~ December 21, 2021 (age 81)
Betty Lou Sled, 81, of Crossett, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the Countryside Assisted Living Home in Hamburg. She was born on October 22, 1940, to her parents, Johnnie and Martha Downey Stanley, and was a lifelong resident of Ashley County.
In 1959, Betty graduated from Hamburg High School and, a few months later, married her best friend and soul mate, James Sled.
For the next sixty-two years of her life, she devoted totally to family and serving the Lord. She and James were active members of Meridian Baptist Church and made sure their children and grandchildren knew the value of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Betty proudly volunteered to care for the little ones in the church nursery for many years, along with staying involved with the PTA at the schools. She enjoyed singing, listening to music, and attending family reunions. She was affectionately known as “Mama Sled” to several of her children’s friends and was an exceptional role model.
Her beauty inside and out, combined with her kind and gentle nature, was evident every time you saw her smile, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, James Allen Sled, Sr., and one brother, Jimmy Glen Stanley.
She leaves behind four children, Kim, Jim, Jana, and Brandi Sled, all of Crossett; and four siblings, Virginia Bolin (Jerry) of Morrilton, Arkansas, Nancy Rankin of Hamburg, John Stanley (Tracie) of Hot Springs, AR, and Debbie Garner (Robert) of Camden, AR; along with four grandchildren, Jay Sled (Mallory), Bradyn Sled (Haley), and Maly and Sky Shields; three great-grandchildren, Jaycie, Maycie, and Jayson Sled; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 26 at the Meridian Baptist Church, 4593 Ashley 703, Crossett with Bro. Garry Massey, officiating followed by interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Jay, Bradyn, and Greg Sled, Mike Carter, Mike Hinton, and Byron Jackson. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Dodson and Betty’s Supper Group.
