Betty Walthall Obituary

Betty Jo Walthall, 82, of Crossett, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2020, surrounded by her family.  She was born in Huttig, Arkansas, on November 2, 1937, to her parents, James, and Relda Stinson Perry.

For many years, Betty worked at the First National Bank of Crossett; however, she is most remembered as the Mayor’s Secretary for the City of Crossett.  Betty’s service did not stop at her weekday job. She was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church, where she played the organ, occasionally the piano, and could sing harmony like no other.  She was an amazing seamstress, and not only made dresses for her daughters but made many wedding dresses, prom dresses, etc. for friends all over town.

Betty also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, and especially shopping.  She had the best style, which could easily be found in her eight closets, her wall of jewelry, and her incredible shoe collection, and believed that even buying a pack of gum could make a person happier.

She loved hard, and if she loved you, she would go to bat for you every time, even for the little things.  She loved her Jesse, who enjoyed spoiling her, and she loved Jesus and made sure her children and grandchildren did too.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by one grandson, Jon Wallace.

Her survivors include her husband of 65 years, Jesse Walthall of Crossett; one son, Terry Walthall, and wife, Anna, of Texarkana, AR; two daughters, Lisa Wallace and husband, Don, of Hamburg, and Jan Stephenson and husband, Bryan, of Monticello; two brothers, Bob Perry, and wife, Wanda, of Little Rock, and Charles Perry of Hampton; one sister, Frances Allen, and husband, David, of Natchitoches, LA; along with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 9, at the First Assembly of God Church, 1500 Parkway Drive, in Crossett, with Pastors Kenneth Neal and Bob Perry, officiating, followed by interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers are Jesse and Will Stephenson, Sam May, Mark Hawkins, Billy Reynolds, and Cecil Walthall.  Honorary pallbearers are the City of Crossett employees.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 8, at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the First Assembly of God Church Building Fund.
