Bill "Pop" Schlesier Obituary

Bill “Pop” Schlesier, 76, of Crossett, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 4, 2021.  He was born in Monticello, Arkansas, on May 22, 1945, to his parents, James, and Tommie Mae McFalls Schlesier, and was a 1966 graduate of Pine Bluff High School.  After two years at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, he was drafted into the United States Army.  From 1968-1970, Bill served our country honorably in Vietnam and earned the prestigious bronze star.

Following his military discharge, Bill returned to Crossett and began a thirty-eight-year career with Georgia Pacific, where he worked as a winder operator until his retirement in 2008.

Bill enjoyed the simple pleasures of life watching CNN, scrolling through Facebook, and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren.  He was an extraordinary gardener who could grow just about anything and especially loved growing flowers.

Bill was also quite a jokester who always had something up his sleeve, but a man everyone fell in love with because of his larger-than-life personality and his big heart.  His home was always full of kids, including those he took in, and he will never know the impact he made on so many of their lives because of his inability to judge.

Bill loved and lived life to the fullest, keeping his sense of humor to the very end.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his family, who he loved dearly.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy, and Myron Jay Schlesier.

He leaves behind his wife of fifty-three years, Sherry Buckley Schlesier, and five children, Deane Johnson (Bryan) and Craig Schlesier (Chandra) of Crossett, Jeffery Schlesier (Chanelle) of Sterling, CO, Allie Flowers-Sharp (Matt) of Crossett and Kaitlyn Schlesier (Liz) of Norman, OK; and one sister, Paula Beasley (Daryl) of West Monroe, LA; along with six grandchildren, Andie Johnson, Haleigh Schlesier, Ashleigh Schlesier, Ivory Conour, Alexia Schlesier, and Matthew Koeller; and three great-grandchildren, Ella Claire Sharp, Kyleigh Athena Miller, and Jaxen Oliver Miller; and one nephew, Joshua Newell (Kristen) of West Monroe, LA; along with a host of other family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date.  Services entrusted to Medders Funeral Home.
