Birdie Mae Hackney, 84, of Lacey, a devoted mother and grandmother, passed away on December 26, 2024, at The Woods in Monticello. She was born on June 8, 1940, in Monticello Arkansas to her parents, J.W. and Mary Jane McCutchen Speed.
Birdie attended school in Monticello and worked for over thirty years at Burlington Industries until the company's closure. A woman of tireless energy and warmth, she found joy in tending her vegetable garden, cooking, and sharing meals with family and friends. Her love for the outdoors was evident in the constant care she gave her lawn, and also in her passion for hunting deer and squirrel. Birdie also cherished her time on the water fishing when she was able to go.
A homemaker and faithful member of Ladelle Baptist Church, Birdie’s life was a testament to hard work, family, and her love for God’s creations.
Birdie is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 39 years, Terrell Hackney.
She is survived by three children: her son, James Trotter (Paula) of Monticello; and her two daughters, Glenda Herring (Creed) and Tena Ply (Clark), both of Lacey. She also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren, Allison Wear, Ashley King, Kristi Clark, Cassie Harvey, and Michael Forrest; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
