Carl Wayne Moffatt Obituary

Carl Wayne Moffatt—a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, cherished uncle, cousin, dedicated paper maker, cowman, fisherman, and farmer—went home to be with the Lord on February 21, 2025. Born on September 11, 1930, in the Milo community, he was the son of Carlton Columbus and Sallie Pink Duckworth Moffatt.

Wayne grew up in Ashley County and graduated from Fountain Hill High School before beginning his career with The Crossett Company. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, spending much of his time aboard the USS Yorktown and crossing the Pacific on numerous voyages. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Mary Janice McKelvy, in 1956. Their 69-year marriage was a testament to love, faith, and commitment.

Dedicating 44 years to the Crossett Company and Georgia-Pacific, Wayne retired in 1992 as the Manager of Tissue Mill Operations. His strong work ethic and leadership left a lasting impact, and through his dedication, he provided tirelessly for his family.

A man of deep faith, Wayne was a longtime member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Crossett, where he also served joyfully as a faithful choir member. He was committed to his community, serving as a former Crossett City Councilman and always lending a helping hand to those around him.

Wayne had a deep love for the land, spending countless hours tending his cattle, fishing, and enjoying the simple, fulfilling life of a farmer. He was a man of integrity and quiet strength, known for his steady presence, warm heart, and unwavering devotion to his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Maureen Moffatt Davis.

Wayne leaves behind a legacy of love in his wife, Janice; his children, Denise White (Greg) of Benton, AR, Donna Sasser (Scott) of Milo, and David Moffatt (Beth) of Kennesaw, GA; his grandchildren, Leighton White (Amanda), Landon White, Lindley White (Lindsay), Laura Hancock (Hudson), Elise Rakestraw (Clayton), Carli Sasser, and Sadie Sasser; his five great-grandchildren, Lucas, Lily, Kyndall, Copeland, and Nora; and one special friend, Jason Sasser. He was also a beloved uncle to special nieces Melanie Ferguson and Gina Crawford, and nephews Andy Glover and Brad McKelvy.

Wayne’s life was defined by love—for his family, his faith, his work, and the land he called home. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched with his kindness and wisdom.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 25th, at First Baptist Church of Crossett, 701 Main St., with Pastors Phillip Slaughter and David Newberry officiating, followed by interment with military honors at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett.

Pall bearers will be Leighton, Landon, Lindley and Lucas White, Andy Glover and Brad McKelvy.

Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Crossett General Fund in his memory.
