David Jonathan Wheless, 71, of Crossett, passed away on February 10, 2025, at the St. Vincents Infirmary in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born June 25, 1953, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to his parents, James and Myrtle Morgan Wheless.
David was a skilled mechanic and an avid bass fisherman who found joy in the outdoors. He had a deep love for motorcycles and was a proud, active member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA), where he combined his passion for riding with his unwavering faith.
A man of strong conviction, David’s greatest joy was sharing his faith and witnessing for his Lord and Savior. His words and actions left a lasting impact on those around him, reflecting the love and grace he found in his beliefs.
David retired from A & N Electric, where he worked as an HVAC technician. In his free time, he enjoyed playing guitar with “The Thicket Pickers” at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hamburg, where he was a dedicated member. He was also part of the “Grumpy Ole Men” Group, cherishing the friendships and fellowship it brought. When he wasn’t fishing, riding, or working with his hands, David loved listening to his ham radio and connecting with others.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Wheless; one sister, Mary Jewell; and one daughter, Nejeana Palmer.
He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Cindy Wheless; and four daughters, Candace Almond of Pueblo, CO, Deana Wright (Drew) of Crossett, and Nikki Barnett (Mark) also of Crossett and Marilyn Maranto of Shreveport, LA; along with one sister, Sharon Wheless of Shreveport, LA; 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 pm., Thursday February 13th, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 129 Ashley Rd 25, in Hamburg, with Pastors Danny Merriweather and Ricky Pack, officiating, with interment at Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett. Pallbearers are Drew Wright, Sam Wright, Mark Barnett, Josh Barnett, Cody Carter, and Jason Barnett. Honorary pallbearers are John Jackson, William Scarlett, Cary Wyatt, Jerry Laing, Larry Senn, Rayford Nichols, and Benny Summitt.
