Dixie Brenda White, 80, of Crossett, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022, in Little Rock. She was born in Warren, Arkansas, on January 7, 1942, to her parents Garland, and Pauline Harris Harrelson. She was a 1960 graduate of Warren High School and a member of First Baptist Church of Crossett.
After earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, Dixie taught first grade for several years. In 1988, she topped off her career with a Master of Education degree in elementary counseling from Northeast Louisiana University. She soon took a new role as a counselor for the elementary schools in the Crossett School District. For twenty-eight years, Dixie taught and counseled children. She genuinely loved each of her kids, and her impact on their lives was apparent even decades later along with the effect they had on hers. The kind words and shared hugs when she would run into her former students never ceased to melt her heart.
Dixie enjoyed shopping, playing bridge with her friends, working in her flower gardens, reading, and spending quality time with her grandchildren. She was a Santa collector during Christmas and a die-hard fan of both Elvis and the Razorbacks. She also delighted in family get-togethers and was known for her amazing chicken and dressing.
She was an honest and caring soul who loved everyone, and they loved her.
She is preceded in death by her father, Garland Harrelson; her mother, Pauline Harris Grissom; and one brother, Richard Harrelson.
She leaves behind her husband of thirty-eight years, Ben White of Crossett; one son, Jeff Strickland (Teru) of Little Rock; one daughter, Jennifer Douglas (Mark) of Crossett; and one sister, Donna Pennington (Austin) of Hermitage; along with three grandchildren, Will Strickland, Jaci Manning (Mason) and Cameron Blackburn; one great-grandchild, Willow, and another (Myla) on the way.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 1st at the First Baptist Church of Crossett, 701 Main St, in Crossett, with Bro. David Newberry and Bro. Jamie Staley, officiating, followed by interment at Shady Grove Cemetery in New Edinburg, AR, under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Mike Pennington, Mark Pennington, Chase Cox, Mason Manning, Jim Moffatt, and Cameron Blackburn. Honorary pallbearers are Roddy Goodwin, Mike McDaniels, Terry Pitzer, and Doyle Lawrence.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 30th at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett.
