Douglas T. “Butch” Meredith, 82, of Crossett, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. He was born on February 15, 1944, and was a lifelong resident of Crossett.
Butch served in the United States Marine Corps early in life before returning home and building a life marked by hard work and helping others. Over the years, he worked as a deck hand on a Mississippi River barge, a dispatcher for an ambulance service in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and later as an aide for a home health agency, where he found fulfillment in caring for others.
He enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found fishing or hunting whenever he had the chance. Butch was known for his friendly spirit, outspoken nature, and sense of humor. A true jokester, he loved teasing those he cared about and bringing laughter wherever he went. He never met a stranger and was always ready for a good conversation.
Above all, Butch loved his grandchildren, who meant the world to him. Being with them brought him his greatest joy and proudest moments.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Meredith, Jr. and Rebecca Elizabeth Blake Meredith; one son, Kenneth Frank Meredith; and one grandson, Dylan Meziere.
He is survived by his four children, Teresa Meziere, Becky Gregory, Derek Maxwell, and Beth Walden; along with one sister, Healon Walser; two brothers, Joel and Ronald Meredith; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and a special companion, Carol Flanders.
Butch’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Hospice Home Care staff for the special care Butch received.
A family led graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at Crossroads cemetery.
