Ellis Danzy Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on September 12, 2024. Born on April 8, 1942, in Parkdale, Arkansas, to Ellis and Ileen Thomas Danzy, Ellis lived a life marked by prayer, faith, and love.
A graduate of Wilmot High School (Class of 1961), Ellis devoted 42 years of his life as an overhead crane operator at Georgia-Pacific Extrusion Plant in Crossett before retiring. He was also a dedicated member of Davis Memorial Church of God in Christ for 53 years serving as musician, Sunday school teacher, and trustee until 2014. In that year, under the leadership of his son in law, he moved his membership to Holy Temple Church of God in Christ in Monticello, AR, where he served faithfully until his health began to failed him.
Ellis was a man of many talents and interests. A self-taught musician, he skillfully played the piano and organ, bringing joy to those around him and his church. In his younger years he also enjoyed his CB Radio and was known by his handle "Music Man,". In addition, Ellis enjoyed the outdoors and fishing and will fondly be remembered for his strong Christian leadership, which impacted his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Aretha Walker Danzy of Crossett; six children, Robbie Clay of Sherwood, Lisa Danzy Henderson (Rodney), Carol Campbell (Derrick), Andrea Smith, all of Crossett, Ellis Raynard Danzy of Tulsa, OK, and Edrik R. Danzy of Crossett; two brothers, Samuel Charles Danzy (Rowena) of Ohio and James Danzy (Shirley) of Dermott; four sisters, Margaret Richmond of Little Rock, Shirley Williams of Conway, Jewel Smith (Charles) of Nevada, and Linda Page (John) of Dermott; twelve grandchildren, Derius Campbell, Cierra Campbell, Alia Childress, Alesia Clay, Kaseem Smith Jr., Jaylen Spicer, Kendyl Smith, Jared Henderson, Amahri Henderson, Braylen Danzy, Lailah Danzy, and Trinity Danzy; a goddaughter, Rhoda Cooper Rogers; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Ellis was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Leroy, Eddie, Robert, Willie, Steve, and Hubert Danzy; and five sisters, Emma Burdett, Ola Moore, Ernestine Gales, Nancy Williams, and Verleen Matheney.
Funeral services are under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett and will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 12: 00 P.M. at Davis Memorial Church of God in Christ, with church superintendents, Rodney Henderson (Eulogist), and Ronald Matheney (Officiant), along with host pastor Herbert Ridgell with burial to follow at Westview Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ellis Raynard Danzy, Edrik R. Danzy, Derius Campbell, Kaseem Smith Jr., Braylen Danzy, Jaylen Spicer, Jermaine Gardner, and Curtis Simpson.
