Erma Jo Walker, 89, a lifelong resident of Crossett, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025. She was born on November 17, 1935, and graduated from Crossett High School with the Class of 1953.
For decades, Erma devoted her professional life to First State Bank, where she faithfully served the people of Crossett with grace, professionalism, and a genuine smile. Her title may have been Vice President, but to the countless friends and customers who waited patiently in her line, she was simply "Miss Erma"-the one who took time to listen, encourage, and care. After her retirement from the bank, she continued serving others through her work at Sears and by volunteering at the election polls for many years. She was also a proud member and former board member of the American Institute of Banking (AIB).
Erma's greatest calling was to her faith and her church family. A devoted and active member of the First Church of God, she poured her heart into every role she held-church treasurer, youth leader, pianist and organist, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and seamstress for every costume in the annual Live Nativity. She even cared for the church's beloved donkey throughout the year. Erma's steady hands and generous spirit helped build not only both of the church's buildings, but the very foundation of its ministry.
She was also an active member of the Christian Women's Connection (CWC), always lending a hand and an encouraging word.
Humble and generous, Erma lived her faith daily-quietly giving, steadfast in service, and filled with compassion for others. Her strength, kindness, and devotion to her family were the cornerstones of her life, and her influence will continue to be felt by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmy Neal Walker, and her parents, David and Teenie Farmer Roberts.
She leaves behind her two sons, David Walker (Sherry), and Donny Walker (Jennifer); and one brother, Dave Roberts (Judy) all of Crossett; along with four grandchildren, Bradley Walker (Mallory), Joni Snow (Jeremy), Ashley Martin (Josh), and Dustin Walker (Courtney); fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 16th, at the First Church of God, 1501 Main St, in Crossett, with Pastors Mike Neal and Roy Pepmiller, officiating, followed by interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Bradley and Dustin Walker, Danny Smith, Belvin Hamm, Dylan Snow, Caleb Martin, and Brody Martin.
Honorary pallbearers are Morris Herrington, Josh Martin, Jeremy Snow, Christian Snow, Ty Myers, Mason and Blaze Karr, and the Men of the First Church of God.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Thursday, at the church prior to the service.
