Floyd Ira Griffis, 84, of Crossett, passed away on June 19, 2023. Born on March 16, 1939, Floyd's spiritual journey took a transformative turn in 1967, when he surrendered himself to preach the gospel. From that moment forward, he dedicated his life to shepherding the hearts and souls of others.
Floyd served as a pastor in various churches throughout his lifetime, leaving an indelible impact on the congregations he shepherded. His dedication, unwavering faith, and compassionate heart touched the lives of countless individuals, providing guidance and comfort during times of joy and sorrow.
Beyond his pastoral duties, Floyd was known for his big heart, caring nature, and jovial spirit. A natural jokester, Floyd had a contagious sense of humor that could brighten even the darkest of days. His ability to bring laughter to any gathering created an atmosphere of joy. People were drawn to his warm personality, finding solace in his lighthearted spirit.
One of Floyd's greatest passions was studying the Bible and other religious texts. He found solace and wisdom within their pages and reveled in the opportunity to engage in thought-provoking discussions about faith. Floyd delighted in sharing his insights with others, often engaging in heartfelt conversations, and witnessing to the transformative power of Jesus Christ.
Beyond his spiritual pursuits, Floyd had a unique talent for whistling. His melodious tunes could be heard throughout the town, bringing a touch of harmony to everyday life. It is comforting to imagine Floyd now whistling in Heaven, surrounded by the eternal peace he preached about for so many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, JC and Pearl Morgan Griffis; three sisters, Connie Scroggins, Margie Gardner, and Francis Frisby; and one brother, Charlie Griffis.
He leaves behind his wife of sixty-three years, Vela Keen Griffis of Crossett; one daughter, Barbara Cooper (Keith) also of Crossett; and one son, Phillip Griffis of Texarkana, TX; along with three brothers, Joe Griffis (Nelda) of Kerrville, TX, Jackie Griffis (Shirley) of Cove, TX, and Pete Griffis (Dawn) of Crossett; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 22nd, at Hughes Chapel Cemetery in Beekman, LA with Pastor Cindy Norman, officiating. Pallbearers are Hunter Cooper, Josh Jenkins, Adam Flores, Steven Elmore, Kyle Griffis, and Albert Mills.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
