Harlan Hamilton Obituary

Harlan Morris Hamilton, 93, of Crossett, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at his home.  He was born on October 4, 1925, to his parents, Robert and Ollie Lee Surratt Hamilton.  He was raised a sharecropper’s son and graduated from Mer Rouge High School.  At the age of 20, he joined the Army Air Corp and soon found himself in the middle of World War II.  He returned home when his dad fell ill, and later returned to the war as a Merchant Marine.  He eventually returned to the states and founded his own company called, Hamilton Tool Co., which he ran for over 40 years.  He was a workaholic and often would say how he enjoyed making money more than spending it.

Harlan was adventurous and very talented, he played the bass guitar in a band most of his life, restored an old airplane, taught himself how to fly, and restored several old cars to their former glory, including a 1956 Rolls Royce which was later used in a Hollywood movie.  He loved old cars, especially ’56 and ’57 model Thunderbirds, and soon after moving to Crossett in 1990, he joined the Klassy Kruzers Car Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ruth Hamilton Bright and Lurlene Dunay.

He is survived by his two sons, John M. Hamilton of Phoenix, AZ and Charles Hamilton and wife, Karin, of Riadosa, NM.; and a special friend, Tim Jordan of Crossett; along with other friends and relatives.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 16th at Crossroads Cemetery in Crossett, under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m., at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett, on Wednesday prior to the service.
