Harlan Hipp Obituary

Harlan Hipp, 62, of Crossett, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025.  He was born on December 29, 1962, in Crossett, Arkansas.

Harlan dedicated over 40 years to Hood Packaging, formerly Bemis, in Crossett, where he earned respect and built lasting friendships through his hard work.

A proud and outspoken Democrat, Harlan was never shy about sharing his thoughts, especially on politics. He had a deep love for old westerns and thrillers, enjoyed tinkering around with cars, and watching his favorite football teams, the New Orleans Saints and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

He found immense joy in spending time with his cherished grandchildren and was deeply devoted to his beloved wife, Luz, her family, and the rich traditions of Mexican culture. His trips to Mexico were among the most treasured moments of his life, and it was during one of these journeys that he met the love of his life, Luz, and eventually became one of his mother-in-law’s favorite son-in-laws. As a father, his love was expressed more through his sacrifices and dedication to providing for his daughters than through words. He took great pride in being their father and he loved them dearly.

He had a passion for history, a sharp memory, and a generous heart, along with a soft spot for his Mountain Dew. Outgoing and approachable, Harlan lived by a moral compass guided by honesty and integrity, and despite his strong will, he remained humble and selfless.

Harlan is preceded in death by his father, Fred Hipp, Sr. and one brother, Herbie Hipp.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, Luz Hipp of Crossett; four daughters, Aileen Hernandez (Carlos) also of Crossett, Aliyah Hipp of Fayetteville, AR, Silvia Brown of Hamburg, and Grettel Torres of Veracruz, Mexico; along with his mother, Pamela J. Hipp; and two brothers, Howard Hipp, and Fred Hipp Jr. (Jeanne) all of Crossett; three grandchildren, Aubrielle, Archer, and Abdiel Hernandez; three god-children, Manuel Chavez, Jr., Javier Olivares, Haylee Chavez; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, January 17th, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2400 South Main Street, in Crossett with Father Joe Friend officiating, followed by interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.  Pallbearers are James Hendricks, Carlos Hernandez, Jaydon Hipp, Jeremy Hipp, James Dixon, Justin Hipp, Michael Harris, Gerardo Montoya, with Ben Hipp as honorary.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 16th at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett.
