Herman Stanley Obituary

Herman Douglas Stanley, 81, a lifelong resident of Crossett, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025. He was born on November 11, 1943, in Crossett, to his parents, Charlie and Bessie Pennington Stanley. He was one of 13 children, growing up with a strong sense of family and hard work that carried through his entire life.

Herman had an adventurous spirit, finding joy in the open road on his beloved motorcycle. He also had a deep love for crappie fishing, especially in the spring when the waters were just right. Whether casting a line or tuning a guitar, he found happiness in life’s simple pleasures.

Music was a huge part of Herman’s soul, he loved playing the guitar and writing songs, creating melodies that reflected his heart and experiences. His faith was also a guiding force in his life, and he was a long-standing member of Temple Baptist Church, where he worshipped with devotion and built lasting friendships.

A hardworking man with a kind spirit, Herman touched the lives of many. His laughter, music, and unwavering love for his family will be cherished forever.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Wanda Stanley Cook and ten siblings: Lincoln Stanley, James Stanley, Roland Stanley, Dorothy Smith, Helen Barrett, Pauline Rushing, Brenda Sue Cross, Joyce Wilcox, Mary Lavell Pollan and infant brother, Wayne Stanley.

He leaves  behind his son; Phillip Stanley of West Monroe, LA; two daughters; Ellen Mitchell (Barry) also of West Monroe and Rita Roan (Jeff), of Clinton, AR; two brothers, Kenneth Stanley and Lowell Stanley both of Crossett; 10 grandchildren, Tyler Cook, Austin Cook, Billy James Byrd, Emily McCoy,  Clara Marie Stanley, Christian Thompson, Brendan Thompson, Anna Marie Harrod, Abby Harrod and Mary Lauren Mitchell; and 5 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 27th at 6:00 p.m. at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W., Crossett with Bro. Buddy Kinney, officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-6:00 p.m. prior to the service.
