Herman Owen White, age 81, affectionately known as “Uncle Herman” to many, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 11, 2022. He was born in White, Arkansas, on November 16, 1941, to his parents, James Alvin and Louise Evelyn Williams White.
Herman was a member of the Crossett High School class of 1960 and served honorably in the United States Army National Guard.
Much of his work career consisted of electrical and mechanical work. In 2003, Herman retired after a twenty-one-year career as the maintenance supervisor for Georgia Pacific Extrusion Plant in Crossett. He also used his skills to help others in the community as he felt this was his ministry as a Christian. He was extremely intelligent and would go out of his way to help anyone, especially his beloved church, Meridian Baptist, where he served as a deacon for many years.
Herman provided a sense of calmness to any situation with his kind and gentle nature. He had a big heart which was evident to all who knew him, and especially adored children.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his younger brother, William Thomas White (WT).
He leaves behind his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Sheila Anderson White; and one brother, James Davis White (Ann) both of White, AR; along with two sisters, Sue Evelyn Johnson, also of White, AR and Wanda Claire Steen of Crossett; and with a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15th, at the Meridian Baptist Church, 4593 Ashley 703, in Crossett, with Pastor Doug Hughes and Bro. Rick Pyron, officiating, followed by interment at the Lick Prairie Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Mitch Hester, Raymond Clark, Scotty McKay, Galen Jerry, Andy Lloyd, and Henry Matthews. Honorary pallbearers are Alan Jackson, James Wilcoxon, Randy Smith, and Ronnie Bailey.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 14th, at Meridian Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hope at Home Organization in his honor.
