James Allen Carter, 81, of Crossett, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021, at his home. He was born on September 9, 1940, to his parents, J. Taylor and Tommie Wall Carter. He was a lifelong resident of Crossett and a 1958 graduate of Crossett High School.
James Allen was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Director, the Taylor Carter Hunting Club, the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association, and the Crossett Riding Club where he served three terms as president.
At an early age from his parents, James Allen learned the value of hard work. Besides his first job working at the Forestry Experimental Station for three years, James was self-employed. He raised cattle, grew tomatoes, and operated a successful pulpwood and logging business for many years, along with owning and operating the C Mart convenience store for over twenty years.
The most valuable legacy handed down from his parents was the importance of serving the Lord and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. A legacy he handed down to his family. Having this component in his life gave him purpose. He enjoyed singing with the church quartet and his love for his family, his church, and his crew was unmistakable.
He is preceded in death by his parents and leaves behind his wife of sixty years, Janis Clark Carter; two sons, Jim Carter (Leigh), and Stephen Carter (Stephanie) all of Crossett; one sister, Betty Whiteside of Hurst, TX; and one brother, Thomas F. Carter (Tena) of Wilmot, AR; along with five grandchildren, Brittany Stahley, Stephen James Carter, Chloe Carter, Creed Carter, and Ava Carter; one great-grandchild, Mack Stahley; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 3 at Magnolia Baptist Church, 822 Marais Saline Rd, Crossett, with Pastor Mike Griffith, officiating followed by interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Bill, Bob, and David Frye, Jason and Justin Culp, Mark Carter, and Roy Patterson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Crossett Riding Club.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 2 at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett.
