James Allen Sled, Sr., 77, of Crossett, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the Stonegate Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Lake Village, AR on May 26, 1940, to his parents, John Wesley, and Eva Rowell Sled. He graduated from Crossett High School in 1959 and married his sweetheart on August 21st of the same year. He then began a forty-one year career at Georgia Pacific where he worked as a shift engineer until he retired. His many hobbies included fishing, hunting, and playing guitar, especially sitting around making music with his friends. He was an active member of Meridian Baptist Church and loved his Lord and his family dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bobby Sled; and one sister, Maxie Sled Smith.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Betty Lou Stanley Sled; one son, James Allen Sled, Jr. “Jim”; and three daughters, Kim, Jana, and Brandi Sled all of Crossett; along with four grandchildren, James Allen Sled, III “Jay” and wife Mallory, and Bradyn Sled both of Crossett; and Maly and Sky Shields of Sahuarita, AZ; and two great-grandchildren, Jaycie and Maycie Sled of Crossett.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 4th, at Meridian Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Massey officiating, followed by an interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., Monday also at the church.
